Linzess ® (linaclotide)

●      Brand name: Linzess ®

●      Generic Name: linaclotide

●      Uses: For the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (condition that causes abdominal pain and cramping)  with constipation; constipation from unknown cause

●      How it works: Helps the intestines to work better by helping to promote movement and decrease pain 

●      Common Side effects: abdominal pain, diarrhea, gas

●      Serious Side effects: severe diarrhea

●      Who cannot use this medication: children, (under 18 years old), blockage in the intestines

     ●      Dose: Available as 145 mcg and 290 mcg capsule

○    For constipation:

                                    ■         145 mcg by mouth once a day at least 30 minutes before the first meal of the day

○    For Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation:

                                    ■        290 mcg by mouth once a day at least 30 minutes before the first meal of the day
