● Generic Name: icosapent ethyl
● Uses: Vascepa® is for adults with high triglycerides. Triglycerides are one of the bad fats that are in blood. Vascepa® should be used along with a low-fat and low-cholesterol diet to lower triglycerides.
● How it works: Vascepa® works on liver to stop the liver from making triglycerides and also may work by increasing the removal of triglycerides from the blood.
● Most common side effects: joint pain, bruising, nose bleeds, and taking longer to stop bleeding.
● Serious side effects: No serious side effects have been reported yet.
● Who cannot use this medication: Vascepa® should not be used by anyone who has an allergy to any of the components of the medication.
● Dose: Vascepa® is available as a 1 gram soft-gelatin capsule. Two capsules should be taken by mouth two times per day.
